So far we've had the first three menus...sigh, we've had a busy weekend and didn't get started until Sunday on this. LOVED the soup from Friday--luckily I had made a large batch so that I had some left over for lunch today! Interesting to grate a tomato, but a great trick, and so much nicer than having to use my blender.
Alec, my almost 10-year-old, helped me make tonight's dinner (Saturday's menu; I was gone the last two nights working). Yesterday we went to a Totally Free event, where people bring all their unwanted stuff and other people take it home. He decided he wanted a stack of Cooking Around the World books from the 60's/early 70's. I had to chase him out of the kitchen several times today as he was attempting to make recipes without knowing what I had bought for this menu (and he doesn't quite know how to clean up after himself properly yet). But tonight he did most of the steps for the Timbales by himself; mixed the marinade; scrubbed and cut up the potatoes, and snipped all the herbs. Sounds like I did very little, LOL; but I was teaching the whole way. He learned a lot of culinary terms tonight, including emulsify , and how to cut safely, and how to snip herbs and grate a tomato--we both learned that one.
So, as elaborate as your menues sometimes sound, you can honestly say a nine-year-old boy can make them!
Looking forward to the Pork Chops and the rest of the week,
Tracey
